Take a Hike!

June 27, 2016
Top Picks… LA’s Best Hikes

In a city where bikini season is year round and fitness fanatics flaunt finessed physiques like shiny new wheels on Rodeo, you can bet that Angelenos know how to walk the walk when it comes to the city’s plentiful fitness trails; be it for exercise or the all-important glowing selfie. Lycra on, Lottie!

Although long-time LUXE fave and celeb-safari Runyon Canyon Hero’s Loop has hung up its sneakers until August, rest assured there are plenty of A-list spotting opps on the popular Temescal Canyon Trail in the Pacific Palisades, which begins and ends in Temescal Gateway Park. This moderately challenging trail affords the choice of a relatively steep and shaded canyon incline up to Skull Rock via a small cascade, or a sun-dappled, easy-on-the knees option – whichever you choose, both flaunt stunning vistas over the Pacific.

Alternatively, make a leap to Mount Hollywood through the Charlie Turner Trail which winds through Griffiths Park and ends with pant-dropping, 360-degree views of Mt Lee, and that sign across its summit.

If you want the panos without the punch, beeline for the Franklin Canyon Reservoir Loop, an easy 70-min gamble around the glistening emerald water and verdant shrubbery, that once appeared in the opening credits of ‘60s sitcom, The Andy Griffith Show.

Equally picture perfect is LA’s Inspiration Point Loop via Will Rogers State Historic Park, which begins at the humourist’s former Pacific Palisades ranch. After a short stroll past the remains of Rogers’ old golf course, choose between a gradual, two-mile incline or a single-track, four-mile scenic route, both reward with magnificent views over the San Gabriel mountains.

But if nature trails are too namby for you, follow hardcore fitness-buffs and trail-runners up to Baldwin Hills’ Scenic Overlook via a sharp, 30-min glute-busting stair workout. Legs as wobbly as a jello shot? Recover with the sensational vistas over the Los Angeles basin, with Culver City and Sony Pictures Studios all in sight. Phew!
