Scopa Italian Roots

From chef Antonia Lofaso and master mixologists Steve Livigni and Pablo Moix (also known as the culinary dream team behind Studio City’s highly buzzed-about Black Market Liquor Bar) comes Scopa Italian Roots, a new industrial-rustic, Amer-Italian venture in Marina del Rey. Marrying lofted, high ceilings and recycled brick walls with communal and counter bar seating, Scopa’s decidedly unpretentious decor takes a firm backseat to the attention-seeking food and drink.

From the bar, Livigni and Moix mix up their L.A.-inspired tipples like the bourbon-based ‘Bullocks Wilshire’, fused with Demerara rum, Cynar and maraschino liqueur, while the ‘West Side’ is smartly shaken with vodka, Angostura bitters and orgeat syrup. Tipple settled, a skim over Lofaso’s soulful menu reveals her mixed heritage – there’s antipasti like chilled Sicilian tuna with quail eggs and capers, or hearty scallops oreganata baked with garlic and herbs. Mains like pork shank pappardelle (tossed with pork shank and stracciatella) and Milanese veal chops (with dandelion greens and sorrel) feature, while totally obbligatorio desserts include crispy-chewy zeppoles and chocolate panna cotta topped with pomegranate and pistachios.
