Farm-to-fork aficionados are nestling in alongside the Los Angeles fashionable set to nab a seat at Milton Sznaider’s refined new Mediterranean concept with its sprawling sun-soaked terrace and design-meets-rustic interiors. Unusual to the Hollywood area, Madera Kitchen succeeds in the style stakes with a dining room of mellow yellow banquettes, modern artwork, Oaxacan-tiled bar and a wooden herringbone ceiling, and that’s before you’ve even set foot in their gorgeous stone-flagged terrace, complete with olive trees and a fireplace to warm nippy diners come nightfall.
The Med-inflected New American kitchen serves up a rainbow of seasonal and locally sourced plates, such as slow-roasted pork with brussel sprouts, dates, oregano and a drizzle of cider vinegar; flatbreads topped with fingerling potatoes, roasted garlic and rosemary; and buckwheat chitarra pasta with poached egg, black garlic, thyme and brown butter. While larger parties can indulge in their signature sharing plates, including heirloom carrots seasoned with green garlic, pepitas, spiced honey and zesty goat cheese, or a bulgur wheat, black garbanzo, cucumber, radish, mint and feta cheese salad. And did we mention that the bar is serving up fernet-spiked Manhattans and Navarro Correas malbec by the glass, tapped from a giant wooden barrel? Bottoms up!
