They say that good things come in small packages. By that rationale, miniature must equal magnificence – a philosophy that can be applied to Franklin Ave’s see-and-be-scene new imbiber, the postage stamp-sized MiniBar.
Intimate and insider, the interiors of this bijou 32 seater hark back to the golden years of the Goodfellas. Think dark with masculine accents – slat wood panelling, red and white vinyl banquettes, gold-dipped tables and vintage lighting. A ‘70s soundtrack underscores the atmos and serves to inform you that while this haunt might be achingly hip, it doesn’t take itself too seriously.
The condensed concept continues into the compact menu, which offers just eight speciality cocktails. Designed by straight-talking general manager and certified som Jeremy Allen, the crafty catalogue offers quality contempo concoctions, minus the pretension. Traditionalists will appreciate The Melvin, an ‘almost Kosher’ Manhattan made from 101 Rye and Manischewitz Vermouth, while those nostalgic for classic small-screen sitcoms should try the Regal Beagle Twinkle Toes, a Three’s Company-inspired mélange of greyhound sloe gin fizz and kir royale.
There’s also a handful of wines by the bottle or glass, as well as short but solid selection of interesting ales, from locally brewed Angel City Wit to Japanese barley pops from Yo-Ho Brewing Co. Cheers!
