Vertigo sufferers will have to steel themselves for a visit to 71Above, but by golly it’ll be worth it! LA’s fashionable denizens will be removing their trademark shades to get a better look at the soaring views from this new 71st-floor eatery, which promises kerpow panoramas alongside elevated mod-American cuisine by chef Vartan Abgaryan (formerly of Cliff’s Edge).

Unlike any other LA restaurant, Downtown’s long-awaited, glassy, 360-degree aerie, perched atop the US Bank Tower, has finally debuted its fine food and even finer vistas, 950 feet off the ground.

Plucky punters have several dining choices (but book ahead to avoid lowering the mood!). Boasting Pacific Ocean gazing, the main Tag Front-designed contempo dining room sports floor-to-ceiling windows, curvy banquettes, a radical geometric ceiling with sculptural metallic lights, and a wonderwall of wine. Swing by for lunch or a three-course dinner with wine pairings. Line-caught halibut, suckling pig and prime ribeye will get your attention, but there are sophisti, seasonal pasta and veggie options too. Alternatively, perch at the bar for snacks, lunch or dinner, while admiring those moreish Malibu, Santa Monica and Bev Hills views. We feel oysters with cucumber granita and lime coming on...

Foodies can also ogle the prep process at the exclusive chef’s table by the open kitchen. Spaces for semi-private or private dining will appeal to those seeking intimacy. Thirsty? Hightail it to the no-res Skylounge bar, where inviting tan leather sofas entice you to linger over happy hour, afternoon cocktails or a naughty nightcap.
