Only moments ago did we usher in the Year of the Goat (or Ram or Sheep, whatever), but now it’s passed and the effects of waist-busting feasts plus thoughts of summer frolics have many a Beijing stylista working on his or her beach bod. Thankfully Tribe, the health-centric Chaoyang cafe from NOLA-vet Brandon Trowbridge is here to help.

Within the light, natural two-storey space of white walls and blond wood, Trowbridge crafts a tasty, wholesome menu using fresh, organic ingredients. Trust us, it’s all delish, but star orders include the grilled salmon with asparagus, egg, olives and roast tomatoes on seven grain sprouted bread; Israeli lentil bowls with shaved fennel, pickled peppers, pumpkin, spiced yoghurt and mixed grains; and for those with a sweet tooth, vegan carrot cake. Complement your food with a glass of pressed juice or a smoothie such as the Purple People Builder made from sweet potato, blueberry, pear and cinnamon, or try the house-made kombucha fermented tea with seasonal fruit. For those on a serious health kick, the natty ‘Glossary of Goodness’ will guide you through the menu, indicating which items are packed with antioxidants and vitamins or are gluten free (plus other attributes), so you can fine tune your meal. Although at the end of the day, whatever you choose, it’s all good for you. Become one of the Tribe – or should that be flock?
