Breathe in, breathe out, centre your energy, and try to ignore that slightly uncomfortable lotus position… After the travel chaos, gourmet over-indulgence, sensory stimulation and raucous family time of CNY celebrations, there’s nothing better for the soul than a spot of meditation and yoga, guaranteed to reset your system for the year of the rooster, and provide a spiritual detox for your frazzled mind.

If your chakras are all bent out of shape, make a chi-line for the Beijing Mindfulness Centre in Dongcheng, located in a shady courtyard in a hidden hutong. This peaceful little holistic wellness centre focuses on physical, emotional and spiritual well-being with secular mindfulness classes and more. Sessions are open to both beginners with zero experience and advanced practitioners, with options for all levels including one-on-one or tailormade sessions, lectures, workshops, and even international retreats.

For a mental workout, start with an on-trend mindfulness class, intended to highlight awareness of the present moment and including mindful listening, mindful looking, mindful eating, mindful walking and mindful breathing. Alternatively, meditation classes include Beautiful Mind, Sound Meditation and Conscious Communication. If you’d rather get more physical, then book in for a Kashmiri Yoga session; current options include Hatha Vinyasa Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yoga Therapy and Playful Yoga. Classes are mainly taught in English, with Chinese translation available.
