Dutchman Wouter de Haan and American-born Justin Kwan believed they had identified a glaring gap in the market when they founded retail collective Principle M. With this online store, including a MTM service and personal styling, their mission was to provide the men of Beijing (and now all over China) with top-shelf quality European materials crafted skillfully at the hands of Chinese artisans, and topped off with a staggeringly reasonable price tag.
The site is simple and accessible in a way that caters to the gent who fears the complicated and often baffling world of online shopping. PM’s clean-lined collection has been divided into ‘essentials’ like shirts, sports jackets, trousers (chinos and wool), cashmere sweaters, suits and accessories like handmade silk/linen blended ties and natty pocket squares. Their suits are hand-cut using half-canvassed construction methods and fabrics imported from England or Italy, and once made to fit in their showroom, can be delivered anywhere in China, as can their range of RTW polos, shirts and accessories. Alternatively, meet with one of their personal stylists who can either welcome you in their showroom or visit you at home and in the office. Pret a porter, indeed!
