Jian Archery Club
Potentially lethal weaponry in an alcohol-infused environment is rarely a scenario one would voluntarily walk into, but the threat of an ill-aimed arrow veering wide of the mark has failed to discourage fun-seekers from rushing to hip, new Sanlitun hangout Jian Archery Club. The underground range and full-service bar (complete with classic sips to steady your aim) beneath the SOHO shopping complex offers aspiring Robin Hoods the chance to improve their aim with twelve lanes for target practice, and more bows and arrows than you could shake a pair of green tights at.
RMB120 will get you a bow, finger guards and a full quiver of arrows for an hour, although individual hire isn’t necessary, and small groups can share and take turns letting loose, or hire two sets for an old-fashioned shootout. The club’s knowledgeable instructors are also on hand to provide novices with initial tips. Once satisfied that you’re shooting straight, retire to the casual, graffiti-adorned bar or beanbag-strewn lounge for cocktails such as mojitos and strawberry margaritas, local beers, wines and coffee. For those who seriously want to sharpen their aim, the club also offers membership and lessons, and plans to host competition nights in the near future. So gather your merry men and ditch Sherwood for Sanlitun!
