Houston-born Adam Murray started out making modest home deliveries of his signature slow-roasted pork shoulder and brisket in 2009, though you’d never know it by how far he’s come in five short years – so popular did his perfect, home-style pork prove, that Murray saved funds to set up not one but two expansive Southern-style barbecue restaurants. His most recent branch of Home Plate BBQ is set over a sprawling Sanlitun space, touting the all-American ‘Wild West’ vibe with rippled metal sheets painted in red, white and blue, a saloon-style lacquer-top bar, and of course, multiple TVs which broadcast the quintessential sports games.
Hearty Texan (and even some Tex-Mex) bites range from his famed double cheeseburger to pulled pork sandwiches made from 8-hour slow-cooked rack of pork spare ribs, and of course chilli-cheese fries, fried okra and nachos. On tap you’ll find both US-imported and local brews, like Vedett White, Brooklyn IPA, Kentucky Bourbon Ale and Slow Boat. Or for a lighter constitution, more than 20 cocktails (like the anise-infused Fizz Creole) have been conceptualised by Leon Lee of Apothecary and Janes & Hooch fame. If that weren’t reason enough, the Sanlitun branch also plays host to events from funnymen-about-town Punchline Comedy. Fire up that grill, partner!
