Latin Conservatory

May 12, 2014

With summer fast approaching, and all eyes fixed firmly on Brazil ahead of the World Cup kick-off, we know we aren’t alone in anticipation of both the season and the spirit. Lucky for Beijing-bound travellers and residents, there’s one dining destination that allows guests to enjoy not only the weather but also the Latin American flavours sure to tantalise palates the world over in the coming months.

In today’s culinary scene restaurants can open and close in the blink of an eye, but local institution Alameda has been serving up a feisty mix of fusion plates for almost a decade, and there really is no question as to why it’s seen this kind of long-term success. The charming, conservatory-inspired dining room brings the feeling of the outdoors in, with glass walls and ceilings showcasing the surrounding trees, foliage and streaming sunlight. Naturally, the pretty situ is best enjoyed at lunchtime along with Alameda’s good value set menu. Start with Peruvian causas topped with tilapia ceviche and mango salsa, or beef tacos smothered with melted cheese, then build your own main from a selection of meat (pork tenderloin, beef escalope), fish (sea bass), side (linguini, mashed polenta) and sauce (red wine, lemon butter) options. Round off with rice pudding or cappuccino panna cotta and a glass of the house wine (included). Score!
