Big Apple Brunch

September 05, 2013
Tribeca Restobar

New York City does many things well, not the least of which are fabulous comfort food, killer cocktails, long, lazy brunches and industrial-rustic design, so it seems fitting that a new Thonglor eatery offering all that and more would not only take inspiration straight out of Gotham, but also its name. Tribeca Restobar was aiming to fill the gaping chasm that was finding brunch in Bangkok outside of a major hotel, and armed with a solid array of reworked classic dishes, and good old-fashioned U-S-A service, we’d say it’s mission accomplished.

With a blue metal façade that could’ve been plucked straight from Franklin Street, Tribeca’s Whitespace Co.-designed fitout comes heavy on white tile, marble tabletops, copper-hooded lightbulbs and white-washed brick, with a map of the namesake district plastered on the wall in case there was any confusion.

On the plate, expect generous portion sizes of such waistline-destroying fare as fried buttermilk chicken and waffles, The Reuben sandwich with pastrami, sauerkraut and emmental, or try the truffle steak and eggs, and pancakes with sous vide poached eggs, maple-glazed pork belly and Hollandaise. Cocktail aficionados need not miss out on heart-stopping fun – the bacon-infused Old Fashioned comes with a crispy rasher garnish, plus there’s a neat selection of craft beers including Beervana and Brewdog. Weight Watchers? Pah!
