Cake On A Stick

January 30, 2014
Pop Me Up

When is a cake not a cake? When it’s a lollipop, of course. The western craze for frosted and decorated cake pops shows no abatement, and Bangkok got in on the act with its very first supplier Pop Me Up who, for two years, has been busy doing a roaring trade in the sweet little skewered thigh-destroyers online. But with the success of their online business, the three Thai owners late last year opened their first brick and mortar outlet on Sukhumvit Soi 63, where you can pick up your custom-created treats and enjoy them in a cute-as-a-button, pastel-hued cafe complete with soda menu.

The three basic round cake pops have fillings of toffee/coffee, strawberry cheesecake or chocolate), whereas the more ornate and complex custom cake pops have a basic chocolate, strawberry or vanilla cake base, their allure being chiefly the extraordinary and seemingly unlimited range of shapes, designs and cartoon characters painstakingly created out of frosting and edible decorations. Perfect for parties or gifting (as the little taste bombs are coated in icing they keep quite well), simply order three days in advance and pick up at your leisure, just be sure to resist the temptation to eat them all before you get them home! Pop Me Up – bliss on a stick!
