Fine Wine Diner

August 29, 2013
Cellar 11 Wine Bar & Bistro

Bangkok has raised the bar for oenophile destinations of late and no exception is the addition of elegant eatery Cellar 11, occupying a lavishly renovated two-storey Sukhumvit Soi 11 house with lush and leafy surrounds. This standalone establishment boasts various dramatic spaces, including the Penfolds Grange Room in the attic devoted to sampling Australian wine, the Allegrini Amarone Room documenting the history of Italian wine, and the magnificent Moet & Chandon underground cellar modelled on the French original.

A simple one-page menu is anything but, with complex processes such as crispy duck confit triple-cooked leg with truffle-infused mash and a honey-thyme gravy. And there’s a strong emphasis on quality imported ingredients too – their chilled seafood platter is impressive, to say the least, with premium-grade steamed and whole Canadian lobster, Hokkaido giant scallops, tiger prawns, New Zealand mussels and Fine de Claire oysters with shallot vinegar.

And of course the wine flows plentifully – with over 1,000 bottles to choose from, customers can sample 30 different wines in a tasting session, which vary from the rare to the affordable; plummy deep Tuscan reds such as Tenuta Sette Ponti Crognolo and refreshing citrusy whites like the Loire Valley’s Domaine Vacheron Sancerre. Sip, swirl, swallow!
