Da Bomb

Bangkok Betty

For Bangkok’s night owls it is all but impossible not to have heard of bar designer extraordinaire Ashley Sutton and his seemingly unstoppable success at figuring the scene and zeitgeist and serving up watering holes whose design both fascinates and entertains the populace – Shanghai-style speakeasy Maggie Choos and blacksmith-inspired Iron Fairies to name but two. And his new baby, Bangkok Betty, shows no sign of being any different in terms of popularity even with its 40s-style American bomb factory theme – think soaring brick columns, industrial wood-topped stools, iron-clad tables and more polished nickel ‘bombs’ and missiles than you know what to do with.

Needless to say all this is icing on the cake, and a bar stands and falls with its drinks - step forward then Sutton’s secret weapon #2, namely Joseph Boroski, the cocktail maestro behind all of Sutton’s bars as well as a good few others internationally. Here, he conjures innovative blends like the Kickapoo Joy Juice of vodka, cassis, fresh pineapple and watermelon, and the Final Approach that blends whisky with fresh ginger, lime and lemongrass syrup. Add a cast-iron comfort menu of steaks and salads and you’re really winning the war on hunger and thirst. Bombs away!
