Meaty Treat

April 25, 2016
Meatlicious
Can’t bag a table at San Pelle Top 50 fave Gaggan? Slink up to hot chef Anand’s casual, fun, meat-driven new concept Meatlicious instead. Fare here is foam-free and filling – think French oysters, Wagyu steak, tuna fresh from Tokyo’s fish market Tsukiji, and Argentine grain-fed tenderloin with chimichurri sauce, all cooked on a wood-fired grill and served with nothing but ice-cold beer (don’t drop the wine word).

Meatlicious’ weapon of choice is a trio of custom-designed hot-stone ovens with height-adjustable barbecues, so superb steaks can be sizzled to order. Slow-cooked, organic fare is the name of the game at this charming, rustic-inspired Ekkamai affair that’s easy on the Instagram eye. Even your non-meat-eating friends will be happy, ordering pescatarian-pleasing salmon or tuna ceviche, creamy mussels and grilled corn.

Set in a backstreet soi, Meatlicious’ Mid-Century villa offers private rooms upstairs or maxi buzz downstairs (grab a bar spot at the open kitchen to watch the pyrotechnics), with a romantic courtyard. Chunky wooden tables and pendant light bulbs add rough-luxe.

Rapturous local food bloggers are worried they’ll have to dress up to go to the neighbourhood supermarket now, with Meatlicious drawing a gentrifying crowd. Reserve your table to avoid disappointment.
