Five-way Flavour Fest

May 04, 2015
If we could summate Thai cuisine in one neat sound bite, we’d venture it’s not unlike having a bangin’ party in your mouth with up to five different flavours hitting the dance floor at any one time. However, sometimes at least one of them – whether it be sour, sweet, salty, bitter or spicy – gets lost in the crowd. Not so at Paste. Every taste sensation at this mod Thai eatery gets its moment in the spotlight thanks to a skillfully executed roster of time-honoured Siamese recipes, restored to their former glory by Thai-Aussie duo Bongkoch Satongun and Jason Bailey.

Setting up shop inside the chi chi Gaysorn complex, this second outpost from the husband-and-wife team serves up more of the excellent fare that earned it applause in the Sukhumvit Road original. By combining aristo heritage dishes with contemporary techniques and with a focus on provincial and – where possible – organic produce, Paste has cemented its place on Bangkok’s flourishing culinary scene. What’s more, they’ve applied the same concept to their cocktail list, creating crafty concoctions from berry, cinnamon and citrus-infused vodka, and more.

Standout dishes include the Insta-worthy stock-poached pork neck with green chilli puree, red grapefruit, toasted sticky rice and Thai flowers, while spice fiends should sip on their signature Paste My Thai – a heady combination of kaffir lime and lemongrass-infused vodka with spicy chili, shaken with fresh mint and ginger. Aroy!
