It was a bitter day for Bangkok’s brunchers when Sukhumvit fave Minibar Royale – the New York-inspired café-cum-bistro credited with kickstarting the city’s new wave of artisan brewers – shuttered after six years early in 2014. But, fortunately for those that just couldn’t go without their weekly slice of cream cheese-smothered red velvet cake, the diner has now returned (sans the regal epithet) in the guise of recently unveiled all-day Minibar Café.
Perched atop retail sanctum Central Embassy, the new locale retains all the elements of the earlier incarnation: a showcase bar, subway-inspired mosaic floor tiles, simple timber furnishings and a global menu that deftly swings from inventive breakfast fare like Eggs Benedict spiked with salmon roe, to French foie gras ravioli, and Thai cowslip salad. What is new is the sprawling outdoor terrace, perfect for enjoying a cheeky afternoon Garden Party (a.k.a gin and pomegranate cocktail), or a salted caramel chai latte paired with your pick of daily-made desserts like scent-uous lavender cake and seasonal fruit Swiss rolls. Or, if you want to sweeten up your own minibar stash, stock up on take-home goodies like banana pudding trifle and jumbo-sized choc-chip cookies. Yum!
