50s Americana

Buddy Boys' Diner
Even for non Americans, it’s easy to picture: quintessential New York-style diner, fitted with chequered floors, red booths, curved silver-top bar, and neon-lit sign out front. But though this scene is decades past its national heyday, it’s been experiencing a stylish revival in the last year or two, halfway around the world in Bangkok. At Buddy Boys’ Diner, all the obligatory interior features are present, plus nostalgic jukebox, old posters on the wall, and laminated menu offering all-American eats. So popular has the formula proved since the eatery’s 2012 opening, that this year the group expands its offering with the opening of Buddy Boys’ Station.

Located just across the way, BBS is billed as the bar counterpart to the diner – but it’s no ordinary watering hole. Instead, guests will find a grungy garage bar, outfitted in a modernised iteration of an old-school auto-body repair shop, and bedecked in all manner of vintage collectibles and Americana (most culled from the owner’s private collection, including a fuel pump, a Vespa, and Route 66 decor). In addition to drinks, BBS also dishes up some heartier American fare during its weekend BBQ grill, or you can order from the diner’s food menu, to pair with a classic cherry-topped milkshake, or chilled Budweiser – what else would you expect?
