Excite Your Senses
Since opening in January, and despite its hidden location down a sleepy soi of Narathiwat, Italian fine diner Sensi has already galloped up to fifth place on TripAdvisor’s best restaurants in Bangkok list – no mean feat after only a couple of quiet months on the city’s unforgiving restaurant scene. But considering that talented young Italian chef Christian Martena (of Opus fame) is at the helm of this new venture, while his wife Clara runs front of house, this should actually come as little surprise. Furthermore, combine said passionate duo with a large restored townhouse and garden setting, and you’ve got the polished but delightfully homey Sensi.

The tight à la carte is still taking shape with delicate dishes such as cherry wood-smoked sea bass carpaccio served with zucchini crudite and orange; porcini risotto topped with parmesan air; and strozzapreti hand-rolled pasta with Canadian lobster. But for the full-on Sensi-ory experience, opt for Martena’s labour of love, a 7-course degustation showcasing the likes of an earthy mushroom soup with a slice of melt-in-your-mouth foie gras; and a burratina served with parma ham, fresh artichoke and balsamic caviar, accompanied by a selection of Old World wines like Chianti Classico Fontodi. Aim for a perch at the chef’s corner table, a wooden communal table surrounded by retro molded chairs, for an unobscured view of the master at work.
