Water Library Overflows
You can expect to pay top dollar for a place at Bangkok’s top table Water Library, a luxury backed by the restaurant’s glowing reputation, but when the mood calls for something more relaxed, Water Library has unveiled a new all-day dining concept, 1881. Set inside Groove, a new building in the CentralWorld complex that is devoted entirely to food and beverage, 1881 by Water Library is a shiny new gastro bar modelled on a C.19th steam power plant, complete with floor-to-ceiling windows and polished industrial pipes throughout.

Swiss chef Urs Lustenberger, who can often be seen in the Water Library kitchens, is the man behind 1881’s international comfort menu that spans snacks, brunch, full courses and desserts. Fresh from their oven daily are a range of artisan pastries, buns and bread, paraded as part of the early bird menu which includes a warm bread basket with French butter, farm-fresh eggs liberally smothered in a house hollandaise, wilted spinach and a hearty hunk of slow-cooked pork neck; while later in the day come generous plates of succulent beef burger, salmon confit with pickled vegetables, and double duck breast salad with onsen duck eggs. Alternatively, grab a bar perch of an evening where you’ll enjoy top mixologist Mirko Gardelliano’s repertoire of craft originals and live music on a nightly basis.
