The Gardens of Dinsor Palace

March 10, 2014
Garden Getaway
The myriad restaurants and bars lining Sukhumvit soi offer some fabulous spots for observing and absorbing the Bangkok buzz, but sometimes the mood calls for a spot of peace and quiet with your supper. Well, the newly renovated former royal residence, The Gardens of Dinsor Palace, can offer exactly that. Surrounded by softly verdant gardens, mirrored ponds and fountains, the extensive grounds are not only a world away from the hustle and throng, but are also home to an array of exotic free-roaming animals such as angora rabbits, white peacocks, swans and turtles, and a restored building that offers not one dining establishment, but four...

Spilling out onto a pretty leaf-lined terrace is Rendez-Vous, a high-end establishment plating up fine-dining like chestnut soup with pan seared foie gras, and baked dover sole with capsicum roulade, truffle tuile and chanterelles, alongside an impressively worldly wine list. With a great outlook through its floor-to-ceiling windows, Gabriel's Bistro & Grill offers a marginally more relaxed vibe despite serving top-notch dishes like lemon-crusted Australian lamb rack or saffron pommel sea bass. But if you just want to kick back with espresso in hand, fab little all-day terrace option Napoleon Bakery & Cafe serves killer joe, fresh-baked breads and pastries. Also launching soon is Aspen Steakhouse, which promises to star Japan’s premium Black Wagyu Oumi beef. Ace garden getaway!
