Weak-willed vegetarians and teetotallers would be well-advised to steer clear of Silom Soi as it’s now home to arguably one of the most shamelessly decadent haunts to grace the Bangkok dining scene in a long time. Yes, 661 Silom is a concept that combines two of our favourite indulgences in one fell swoop: on the ground floor you’ll find Meet, Southeast Asia’s first and only Dom Pérignon Champagne lounge, centred around a large glowing white mosaic bar that snakes out onto a leafy terrace, and on the first floor is Meat, an intimate New York-style premium steakhouse fitted with dark wood panelling and luxuriant leather booths.

While the downstairs bar serves only bubbles and tapas-style bites, as well as coffee and a French-style breakfast during the day, the upstairs lounge is devoted to steakhouse classics like foie gras, oysters, and scallops carbonara. But what will really have you tottering up those flights is the beef, which is not only imported from less ubiquitous sources like France, Spain, Argentina and Japan (as opposed to Asia steak stalwarts Australia and the US), but is also aged on the bone in their own private aging rooms until beautifully tender. Each steak comes with silky mashed potatoes and grilled Italian vegetables, as well as an impassioned description of its origin, breed, and cut!
