Machine Age Workshop

July 07, 2014
Antique Americana Archive
Bangkok’s once sleepy soi Ekkamai has undergone nothing short of a reawakening with the opening of popular dining and drinking destinations like Hugo Bar & Eatery and Mikkeller Bangkok, making it a happening hub to rival trendy sisters Thonglor and Sukhumvit. Joining the nabe now is New York-import Machine Age Workshop, the archive’s first standalone store outside of America, showcasing its impressive, museum-like collection of ‘Industrial Americana’ (circa C.18th to mid C.19th) furniture and curiosities from the US’ manufacturing golden age.

Head to this expansive, bi-level brick warehouse and unleash your inner antiquarian to run wild amidst the diverse range of wares – you’ll unearth bric-a-brac of all shapes and sizes, from delicate clocks encased in glass domes to glass-paned double office doors and even a classic general store counter with green and white cupboards – all of which are up for sale, or for short- to long-term leases. If an extensive root and rummage has left you famished, conveniently you can pull up a pew at their in-house snack shack for a concise edit of American-inflected plates, like juicy pulled pork in brioche buns or light grilled chicken salads. Pair with a Roots-sourced coffee to recharge your batteries, then it’s back to antiquing.
