A Bar Above
It’s all too easy in sprawling Bangkok to stay happily ensconced in the Siam-Sukhumvit bubble, so it serves well to remember there’s much more out there to discover, A Bar Above being one such example. Set above laid-back Thai eatery The Café in the Tha Phra neighbourhood, this new bar is a cosy hipster haunt of vaulted ceilings, arched doorways, panelled and cobblestone walls, bare bulb chandeliers, reclaimed wood two tops and a quirky array of vintage furnishings, complete with a narrow terrace of garden seats arranged for prime viewing of the local skyline.

A cocktail list is coming to the bar soon, but for now you can sate your thirst with door-stopper glasses of Hoegaarden and Hoegaarden Rosé, as well as the divine Leffe Brune and standard Stella Artois on tap. The food menu matches the drinks list with hearty international pub favourites like their signature beef patty with grilled bacon and egg, lightly-battered calamari or grilled pork chops, all served with sinfully fat fries and light salad, as well as a choice of pizzas with toppings like pepperoni or smoked salmon with onion. City views satisfied, why not slink upstairs for cocktails at new sister establishment, late-night club Oasis?
