Urban Meets Surf

WTW Lifestyle Store

From the dream team behind Japanese lifestyle brands BALS Tokyo and Francfranc comes lifestyle label WTW (short for Waiting for The Wave), a concept that draws inspiration from “coastal wind, navy sky, mellow music and ocean waves”, words illustrating a scene altogether more reminiscent of the California shores than the buzzing streets of Tokyo.

The laidback, surfer vibe is convincingly brought to life at WTW, where both the décor – with its coastal colour palette of whites, blues, and woods – and the variety of wares speak to a simple life by the sea.

Following the debut of the original Aoyama shop in 2011, WTW has since opened two more Tokyo branches, though last month marked yet another milestone for the brand as they joined the world of e-commerce. Now accessible to all via web is the treasure trove of furniture, home accessories, lighting and kitchenware that line the shelves in Tokyo.

You’ll find everything from “Beach” printed canvas cushion covers to limited edition striped tote n’ towel sets, ‘Born to Surf’ iPhone cases to leather sofas, and sandstone trays to framed art prints of coastlines in Maui and Los Angeles. It’s ground zero for all things nautical - you can almost taste the salt spray!

The deeply ingrained and exquisite design aesthetic that permeates Tokyo is just one facet of this brilliantly glittering and vast city, at once profoundly traditional and wildly unconventional, fabulous in equal measure. It’s one giant, jolting culture shock and stylish surprise that’s not to be missed.
