An Evening of Parisian Decadence

Le Baron de Paris

Is anywhere easy to find in Tokyo? Well, the simple answer is no, but some places demand downright tenacity to locate them, so much so that you get the feeling perhaps they don’t want to be found. Such a place is Le Baron. Whether or not you’ve penetrated the original Paris (or now sister New York) glitterati nightspots, it’s likely that you’ve heard the name and reputation, and the Tokyo outpost works with precisely the same restricted access, taciturn attitude of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell, but have super-fabulous time along the way, darling’!

The Le Baron brand, originally conceived in Paris by famed graffiti artists André and Lionel Bensemoun, and now partnered with star designer Marc Newson and artist Nick Wood, features a distinct, boy’s toy, luxe bordello signature style.

The Tokyo basement club revels in a powerful and heady confection of rich scarlet walls and piercing LED needle-spot lighting, plexiglass dance tubes, leather banquettes, karaoke room and of course, the absolutely essential VIP room, Amour, through whose padded portal, and on whose golden sofas have perched a whole galaxy of international stars from Beyonce to U2. A full suite of the city’s coolest ‘music selectors’ aka DJs hammer down the tracks on theme nights such as Spin the Bottle and Fever, so if ever there were a time to dress up schmick, the time is now.

The deeply ingrained and exquisite design aesthetic that permeates Tokyo is just one facet of this brilliantly glittering and vast city, at once profoundly traditional and wildly unconventional, fabulous in equal measure. It’s one giant, jolting culture shock and stylish surprise that’s not to be missed.
