The Real Deal
Elvis Costello & The Imposters
He’s one of the most identifiable and enduring icons of the 1970s Brit New Wave movement, not to mention he’s been ranked by music bible Rolling Stone as one of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. So upon announcing the release of Wise Up Ghost, what he claims will be his last album, and its follow-up tour, singer-songwriter Elvis Costello has seen his prolific fanbase unsurprisingly emerge en masse, paying homage for what could be the last time.
At the brand spanking new Ex Theatre Roppongi, the quirky entertainer and his support band The Imposters will stage The Spinning Wheel Songbook show over 2 nights, December 12 and 13. The tour is so named thanks to an oversized spinning wheel mounted on the stage that lucky members of the audience will be called upon to spin and thus determine the next song to be played in the set – and with myriad classics spanning his four decades in the industry (‘She’, ‘Clubland’, ‘Pump It Up’, and ‘Shipbuilding’ to name but a few), it’s hard to imagine any one spin being a letdown. You’re in Roppongi and perfectly poised for the barrage of dining and drinking options surrounding the theatre, including Inakaya and big-hitter RyuGin – so go on, make it dinner and a show!
