London Cupcake Go-To
When Farrah Latreche opened Bellas Cupcake Truck back in 2010, she brought with her something new to this city of culinary indulgence – the concept of selling food out of a truck, and her (now cult-favourite) recipes for cupcakes, made using a smooth European buttercream. Bellas quickly became a go-to for locals in search of the bite-size delights, and after three years in the business Latreche earlier this fall opened a brick and mortar outpost for her cupcakes in lively Shirokane Takanawa.
Taking inspiration from the cake shops in her hometown London, Latreche devotes Bellas to making cakes from scratch using premium ingredients, from imported European sugar, to pure bourbon vanilla from Madagascar, to natural colouring from fruits and vegetables. The selection of cakes – encompassing cupcakes (of various shapes and sizes), layer cakes and cookies – all pay tribute to traditional flavours, with classic red velvet, cookies and cream, and coconut and raspberry being fan favourites, and a variety of seasonal ones like Thanksgiving double chocolate and Christmas fondant selling like, well, hot cakes. For the holiday season, there’s the option to go bespoke and create your own design, or why not sign up for a cake and cookie decorating class (available in English and Japanese) to DIY for a special someone?
