LA Label Opens Tokyo Flagship
Band of Outsiders
Los Angeles and Tokyo share a number of style sensibilities, with both cities being fashion-savvy and home to a thriving, youth-conscious scene for of-the-moment trends. Tokyo was the natural next step then for the LA-based Band of Outsiders, founded in 2004 by former Hollywood agent Scott Sternberg and which, near a decade later, has grown from its brand debut (consisting of men’s button-downs and neckties) to one of today’s most revered smart casual labels for both men and women, and which this year finally opened its first brick and mortar flagship: the ultra-modern, three-storey Sendagaya store.
So important is this first, global presence that Sternberg chose to work with renowned architecture firm LOT-EK to create the new space – the result is a modern industrial fit-out, with a steel structure centrepiece (dubbed ‘the Monster’) boasting 28 arms, each connected to a fixture in the shop, from clothing racks to fitting rooms to the checkout counter. Hanging from these arms you’ll find the complete men’s and women’s collections plus a selection of Tokyo exclusives, which currently includes pieces made in collaboration with Vans Japan and Rancourt and Co., plus accessories like totes and towels. That’s sooo LA meets Tokyo!
