United States of Alter
It’s no secret we are huge fans of Shanghai boutique Alter (link to previous article Alter) and the style doyenne behind it, Sonja Long, so it was with much excitement we greeted the launch of her spin-off project back in October, a pop-up store fusing some of our favourite things – namely art, music and of course, fashion. While at first glance the backdrop appears more than a little ‘industrial-shab’, with the stripped down space left largely untouched to await a new permanent tenant, the high-end apparel, edgy new-wave art and uber-chic clientele go a long way in dressing the space up to Alter-cool standards.
Long is once again hard at work highlighting obscure brands from around the globe. MSGM from Italy, Korea’s Steve J and Yoni P, and US labels Ohne Titel and The Bad Taste take centre stage alongside a few more established names like Cheap Monday and House of Holland. French new media artists *LLND step the cool cred up yet another notch by way of their quirky pieces lining the walls, as do the thumping soundtrack and in-store ‘denim bar’, where you can customise your jeans while sipping cocktails. But as we know too well, all good pop-ups must come to an end, and the US of A’s witching hour draws near, so be sure to get in before December 16 for your super style shot.
