OOAK (One Of A Kind)
Bold, statement jewellery can turn even the simplest jeans and T-shirt ensemble into an edgy, polished look suitable for stylish days and elegant nights, and now thanks to the opening of the aptly-named OOAK (One Of A Kind) concept boutique on Taiyuan Lu, Shanghai stylistas can get their hands (and wrists, necks and ears) on and into one of the most of-the-moment and highly-curated accessories collections the city has to offer.
Spread over 3 floors of a narrow lanehouse, OOAK’s salvaged wood furniture, white-washed brick walls and mod-art accents offer the first indication that the store has been resoundingly struck with the hip stick. The next clue, on the ground level, a jewellery display starring the who’s who of the UK’s up-and-coming independent scene, as sought-out by owners Alice Xu and Clare Yu on regular buying trips to Europe.
Think nature-inspired pendants by Alex Monroe, Lara Bohnic’s impeccably-crafted contemporary fine jewellery pieces, and Ros Millar’s earthy, conceptual lines forged in gold and silver cuttlebone casts. Heading on up the stairs, shoppers will find an equally ‘now’ edit of women’s fashion (House of Holland, Antipodium and McQueen et al.) on the second story, and a top-floor gallery space complete with café and rotating events and exhibitions.
