Fashion Meets Function
When American-born Lynn Lu and Tiffany Wu left their jobs and relocated to Shanghai nigh on five years ago, they sought to take advantage of the then-fledgling home-grown fashion scene, launching their unique accessories label Heirloom with the goal to create versatile, functional, and beautiful bags for the modern, jet-setting Chinese woman. To that end, each handmade Heirloom piece has some hidden or not so hidden features – a shoulder bag by day has detachable straps to become an after-party-ready clutch; a roomy tote has multi-functional straps and removable interior pouches; and leather passport holders come complete with built-in SIM card slots.
With this level of careful detail going into each meticulously-crafted bag, it’s small wonder that Heirloom has become one of the city stylistas’ go-tos for creative classics season after season – and having last year opened their stylish flagship in Xintiandi, the brand is as accessible as ever. Must haves from the current summer collection include the flirty and feminine ‘Bree’ with winged or zipped sides in a chic camel shade, as well as the seasonal take on the classic ‘Little Twin’ signature chain-strap tote in a playful baby pink. If it so happens however that you can’t find an exact shape or size to your liking, fret not – Heirloom also offers bespoke handbag services to fit your needs. Chic and easy!
