Melding traditional style with eco-conscious innovation, chic showroom and furniture shop Gelin Casa focuses on revitalizing Shanghai’s stylish past, one piece of vintage 20s and 30s Chinese at a time. Opened in 2008 by husband and wife team Leo Ke and Vivian Wei, it was an instant hit with visitors and locals alike, thanks not only to its stunning antique goods selection but also its custom design services, as well as the fabulously eco-friendly art deco range, produced in house with reclaimed wood and non-toxic paints.
Gelin Casa’s specialised wares fall into one of three categories: There’s ‘Old Shanghai’-style, with original dark wood side tables and cabinets; classic reproductions like leather armchairs or engraved room partitions that come upcycled and restored by the Gelin Casa team; and original designs featuring funky curved desks and solid wood dining tables. Also offering smaller decorative items like pretty wooden fans and ornate vases, GC even stocks printed wallpapers and carpets in stripes, florals, bright colours and monochrome. Lacking in creative flair? Fret not - make an appointment with the GC design consultancy and watch as they transform your humble abode into a stylish slice of old-meets-new Shanghai.
