With a heritage that saw him born to Chinese parents in Paraguay, and studying at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco before moving to Shanghai, it’s unsurprising to find that Tali Wu’s unconventional upbringing has afforded him something of the esoteric when it comes to design. With his passion for leather matched only by his love of heavy rock music, and in particular cult Beijing band Brain Failure, it’s perhaps only fitting that his line of bags and accessories for men and women keeps its foot as heavy on the hardware pedal as it does on the quality of its butter-soft skins.
Launched in 2008, with strong silhouettes and a tang of androgyny as its core concept, the line is now stocked in multiple stores across China. The men’s lines ‘Gravitational’ and ‘Sinister’ are urbane and wearable collections of plain black and embossed crocodile leather that features totes, messengers, duffels, wallets and belts. The women’s range offers a wider spectrum of hides and colours from grey and silver to grape and banana yellow in ostrich, embossed lizard and polished patent finish, across an assortment of styles from the capacious double-zipped satchel ‘Rockola’ to studded daywear clutches. Rock chic and ready to wear!
