Circus Freaks and Cocktail Treats!
Cirque Le Soir
Ever since the delectable Dita Von Teese tasselled-up and got to saucily splashing about in a giant cocktail glass, generation Y has gone mad for all things cirque et burlesque. No surprise then that around the same time entrepreneur Ryan Bish’s outlandish nightclub Cirque Le Soir became a resounding hit with the London A-listers, and has since launched its darkly theatrical franchise in Dubai and most recently Shanghai. Located in the 100-year-old Bund 22 building, Shanghai guests are greeted at the door by a ringmaster before passing by a Chinese acrobatic aerial show, an array of contortionists and sword eaters, and a ‘champagne thunder drummer’.
Meanwhile, the main show comes courtesy of their tattooed burlesque dancers sporting an enviable array of handmade jewel-encrusted costumes, complete with fishnets and ghoulish make-up. The 450-capacity nightclub boasts a central catwalk, several smaller stages, an indoor funfair, make-up artists for the guests and photobooths to capture the finished artwork. As expected, the vintage champagne flows freely, as well as cocktails like Le Fizz (Grey Goose, elderflower essence, lime and soda) and Southside (Bombay Sapphire, hazelnut syrup, lemon, pineapple juice and mint). That said, be warned the door policy is famously tight, so be sure to sport the kind of glam attire that would make Dita proud!
