Shanghai’s Bund has no shortage of historically significant buildings, though in place of the banks, foreign consulates, newspapers and trading houses of yesteryear, these stunning edifices are today home to some of the most stylish dining, drinking and shopping destinations the city has to offer. The oldest of them all is 160 year-old, Qing Dynasty relic 19 Fuzhou Lu, where amidst the granite arches, packing in atmosphere and character in spades, you’ll find the city’s newest oenophile playground, Choir Wine Bar & Kitchen.

The ambient, sultry interior is a feast of brick, stone and raw timber vintage redux architecture affording plenty of low-lit romantic nooks, while the furniture is seductively upholstered in leather and velvet. There’s a 2000+ bottle-strong, in-house glass cellar, and a wine list boasting more than 300 Old and New World names along with a high-end-to-low pricing spread, well and truly ensuring there’s a drop to get everyone hitting their high note. The strong classic cocktail list features the likes of Manhattans, martinis and negronis, and chef Danny Lu’s tapas menu includes curious international influences (hmm, Scandinavian tapas?) as well as more expected Spanish and Asian inflections like tortilla Espanola and shrimp spring rolls, plus charcuterie, grills and crispy thin pizzas. How’s that for pitch perfect!
