In a city so packed with shopping malls you can walk from one to another without even touching the pavement, it can be challenging to find an outfit in Shanghai you won’t ever see walking past you in the street. Of course, there is always the couture route for special occasions, but there’s no reason why daily wear shouldn’t be unique too and that’s where Annata Vintage comes in. Once they’d discovered their shared passion for all things yesteryear, owners Julia Jameson and Ting Zhang wasted no time in banding together to launch Annata Vintage for the sale of their rare collection of 40s-80s vintage womens clothing and accessories.
The bijou space – gussied up with an antique iron bedframe, a dressing table draped with costume jewellery and well-travelled leather suitcases brimming with retro goodies – will most likely bring back fuzzy memories of rooting around in your grandmother’s attic. Every piece has been lovingly chosen during their travels across Europe, from London to Istanbul, and labelled with the decade it came from, while stand-out items such as beaded cocktail frocks or flower-power kaftans are hung in full view on the sea-blue walls. Other vintage gems include Italian-made leather handbags, hats from 1950s England, motiffed silk headscarves and teashade sunglasses, why even the occasional designer has graced their shelves – Fendi, Lanvin, Ferragamo, and Balenciaga to name a few. Step back to chic!
