Local Transportation
Shanghai’s efficient public transport system includes city buses, taxis, a modern metro system, ferries and the high-speed Maglev train to Pudong International Airport. Avoid rush hour, when Metro trains are very crowded and taxis get stuck in traffic, and having your destination written in Chinese characters will prove a great help.
Rolls-Royce Transfer

The Peninsula Shanghai’s four Rolls-Royce Extended Wheelbase Phantoms are now available for guests’ use. Finished in signature Peninsula green, each vehicle has undergone bespoke modifications to suit the needs of guests, providing relaxed, comfortable and luxurious transportation to and from the airport.
Chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce travel within Shanghai are available at RMB 2,000 per hour (with a minimum rental period of two hours).
Advance booking is highly recommended.
Taxi
Metered taxis are plentiful and inexpensive but communication may be challenging, since most drivers do not speak English. It is always advisable to have your destination written in Chinese, preferably with the cross street(s) as well. (

Traffic is always an unpredictable factor, especially during morning and evening rush hours, which can triple or quadruple the usual travelling time. The flagfall fare is RMB 12 for the first 3 km; and surcharges apply for trips longer than 3 km and for trips commencing after 11:00 pm.
Metro
The local metro subway system(
Shanghai Rail Transit) is an efficient and inexpensive mode of transportation across longer distances or during rush hour. One factor to note is that during the morning and evening rush hour, the metro will be extremely crowded.
The single-journey fare is between RMB 3 to RMB 9, depending on the distance of travel. Visitors can purchase single journey tickets or a re-chargeable Public Transportation Card that can be used for the metro, taxis and buses. The Public Transportation Card is available at the Guest Service Counters of each subway station.
The two principal lines are Line 1 – Red (North/South) and Line 2 – Green (East/West). The Peninsula Shanghai is located on Line 2, near the Nanjing Road East station, which is approximately 0.5 kilometre away.
High Speed Train
High-speed trains are a popular form of transportation to other cities in China, including Suzhou (40 minutes), Hangzhou (one or two hours, depending on the type of High-speed train), Beijing (overnight), and elsewhere.
There are two main train stations in Shanghai: Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai South Railway Station. Please remember to check your train ticket to ensure the correct train station that you will be departing from and it is advisable to arrive at the station at least one hour before the train departs.
Tickets can be purchased on the same day at the station; however, it is strongly recommended to purchase them in advance as the supply of the tickets is factually constrained. Our Concierge team is more than happy to help you with any reservation requests.
