The return of The Peninsula name to Shanghai confirms our commitment to China and with Beijing and Hong Kong, increases our presence to three properties in this key market. Our corporate executives are leading the drive for new benchmarks in service, with people-centred management as the foundation of our proven success formula.
  • Mr Joseph W.Y. Chong
    General Manager
    Joseph joined The Peninsula Hotels in 2000 as Director of Rooms at The Peninsula Beijing. In 2005, he was promoted to be Executive Assistant Manager, Rooms and soon after that, he was transferred to The Peninsula Bangkok as Resident Manager. In early 2009, he joined the pre-opening team of The Peninsula Shanghai as Hotel Manager and played an instrumental role in the opening of the hotel in October 2009. Joseph is currently a Fellow of The Institute of Hospitality (UK). From April 2011, he has assumed General Manager of The Peninsula Shanghai.
  • Mr Gareth Roberts
    Hotel Manager
    Gareth Roberts recently joined The Peninsula Shanghai as Hotel Manager. In his previous position, Gareth was Resident Manager at The Peninsula Beverly Hills.

    Gareth began his career with The Peninsula in 2002 before joining The Peninsula Beverly Hills in 2002 as Assistant Manager of The Peninsula Beverly Hills. He has progressed steadily through the ranks and held positions as Front Office Manager, Rooms Division Manager, Executive Assistant Manager, and Resident Manager. Gareth also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Hotel Administration from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.
  • Mr Andrew Chau
    Director of Rooms
    Andrew Chau brings a wealth of experience as Director of Rooms at The Peninsula Shanghai. He held various financial operations in Hong Kong before joining The Peninsula Hong Kong in 1997. Andrew is in charge of the Rooms Division, including Front Office, Guest Relations, Housekeeping, Concierge, Business Centre, and Baggage and Transportation. Andrew graduated from Warwick Business School of Coventry, England.
  • Ms Cecilia Lui
    Regional Director of Communications – China
    Cecilia began her hospitality career in 1990 at the Hotel Nikko in Hong Kong as Assistant Public Relations Manager, before taking up various public relations appointments with The Regent Hong Kong, The Excelsior Hong Kong and Holiday Inn Worldwide before joining The Peninsula Beijing in 2001 as Director of Public Relations. She was the Director of Communications – China based at The Peninsula Beijing before transferring to The Peninsula Shanghai on January 2009.
  • Ms Rieko Kibe
    Director of Marketing
    Japanese-born Ms Kibe began her hospitality career at the two Hyatt properties in Hong Kong before joining The Peninsula Hong Kong in 1994 as Assistant Director of Sales – Japan. After successive promotions within the hotel, she was appointed Director of Sales – Japan in 1996 and Director of Sales in 1999. She was Director of Marketing of The Peninsula Bangkok since 2007 prior to joining The Peninsula Shanghai.
  • Mr Nicol Yuen
    Director of Finance
    Nicol has held various other finance positions over the last 25 years with the Regal, Hyatt, Nikko and Hilton groups in Hong Kong, Macau and Shanghai. His most recent posting was at the Portman Ritz-Carlton in Shanghai where he was the Area Director of Finance, providing support to Ritz-Carlton hotels in China, Korea and Singapore. He Joined The Peninsula Shanghai in February 2011.
  • Mr Patrick Behrens
    Executive Assistant Manager, F&B
    Patrick has held various Food and Beverage positions for 10 years within the Raffles Hotels group in Germany, Cambodia and Singapore. In 2007, he was appointed as Director of Food and Beverage of The Peninsula Beijing and was later transferred to The Peninsula Bangkok in the same capacity. He joined The Peninsula Shanghai in April 2011.
  • Mr Rick Zhou
    Director of Engineering
    A graduate of Zhe Jiang University in Mechanical Engineering, Rick started his hospitality career as a lecturer at the Tourism Institute of Shanghai in 1985. In 1993, he began working in hotel properties at the Sofitel Highland Shanghai and continued on in various positions at the Hotel Plaza NA & Great Wall, the Shanghai JC Mandarin and the Traders Hotel in Shenyang. He joined the Four Seasons Shanghai in 2001 and was the Director of Engineering. Rick joined The Peninsula Shanghai on 1 December 2008.
  • Ms Theresa Sham
    Director of Human Resources
    Following her graduation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Theresa developed her career in the training field of various industries. In December 2005, she joined The Peninsula Beijing as the Training Manager. She was appointed in Beijing as Assistant Director of Human Resources in September 2007 and subsequently Director of Human Resources in June 2008. She was appointed Manager, Talent Management and Human Resources Project, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited in December 2010 and returned to hotel operations in April 2011 as Director of Human Resources for The Peninsula Shanghai.
