Ski Season Must-Haves

It’s that time of year again. The temperature is plummeting, the powder is falling, and A-listers and royals alike can be seen jostling for gondola space at luxurious ski resorts the world over. Keen to get out there? Us too, but first you’d better make sure you look the part. Read on for the best of the best in 2013 ski style…

Take a leaf out of Posh Spice’s book
Girls, one word, and one word only. C-H-A-N-E-L. Karl and his slope-faring underlings have conveniently branded a range of absolutely to-die-for ski equipment and accessories that would have even the most inexperienced novice looking like they not only belong up there, but were born to do it! Where to begin?

There are rosewood and aluminum, and quilted leather (naturally) parabolic skis, composite telescoping poles, glass and carbon fiber snowboards, and lambskin and leather masks in either matte or varnished finishes, all bearing the sacred emblem, of course. Don’t fancy going top to toe? Then we recommend starting with the divine tweed earmuffs embellished with fox and rabbit fur. They’ll not only keep you warm on the way down, they also make a fab talking point for your après party ensemble. C’est chic!

His n’ hers
The couple that displays together, stays together, so before you get to gliding hand in hand, take a peek at Moncler’s uber-stylish skiwear line featuring scorching looks for him and her. Gents, check out the windproof, waterproof, yet super-breathable Talefre English wool and feather down jacket in charcoal grey, and ladies, take your pick of the wool and fur-trim Nomenon coat, stretch nylon Tabuchet shell with down inner, and lightweight Girose vest with sheepskin insets. Getting chilly has never been so hot!

For the serious skier
Created by Heidi Blum (not Klum) and developed along with world-class skiers and off-piste experts, Heidiskis are the self-proclaimed ‘ultimate in hand-made, personalised, wood-core skis’ with the hefty price tag to match.

Manufactured by hand in Switzerland from Swiss White Ash wood (known for flexibility, strength and retaining camber), a pair of Heidiskis will set you back as little as €495 for an ‘off the rack’ all-mountain pair, to upwards of €3,800 for custom builds. Heidiskis come in a range of bold, colourful finishes, including this season’s red and blue tribute to the Tibet Wood Dragon models. Looking to make an impact? You just found your weapon of choice.

Just for fun
Ski trips are full of thrills, spills and hilarity, and there are few better ways to relive the moments long after you’ve returned home than via a Go Pro Hero3 series camera. Available in Black, Silver and White editions (with varying weights, sizes and features, see website), and with a range of premium accessories and mounting devices, the video recorders can be fixed to the top, front or side of your helmet, on a chest harness or tripod to ensure you don't miss one second of your best (and worst!) runs. Fun!
