Tick Tock
Village Halloween Parade
Newsflash! Life on earth officially ends Friday, December 21, 2012. Well, according to the Mayan Calendar it does, anyway. Whether you pooh-pooh the Pisco prophets or are busy putting your effects in order, this year New York’s Village Halloween Parade organisers have opted to face the looming threat of apocalypse in the best way they know how: with a themed exploration of the many embodiments of Time. White rabbits will lead the procession and ‘keep time’, while winged alarm clocks soar above, and cuckoos, time machines and a cavalcade of timely manifestations perform a grand horological finale dance to, fittingly, As Time Goes By.
When the parade has called time (hmm), keep right on marching up 6th Avenue to Spring Street for the 11th Annual Joonbug Masquerade Ball at Capitale, where 53 bands, myriad dancers and artists, and what one can only assume will be a sizable percentage of costumed New Yorkers will overtake the multi-level, multi-zone, 40,000 sq ft space. There’s a one-hour vodka open bar, festive party favours, and a whole lot of revelry to be had for an admission fee starting from just $10. Well, if time is going to stop, it would be rude not to have glass of bubbles in hand when it does, no?
