FiDi Fashion Fever
The sign outside the newly-opened Trinity Place may read ‘department store’, but a step inside quickly erases any thought of overcrowded, discount shopping; it is instead a minimal, almost sparse space that suggests ‘cute, curated boutique’, and where Financial District shoppers can get a stylish wardrobe update from the store’s inventory of many new and mostly international designers. A charming downtown haven of bare wood floors, where vintage tables are topped with jewellery armoires and mismatched armchairs surround the shoe corner, it’s also where you will find a fair few established European and Australian brands making their American debut.
In its inaugural month, racks are lined with flirty feminine pieces from Sydney’s Sylvia Lee, cheeky lightweight totes from cult label Thursday Friday, and trendy printed separates from Brit brand Goldie London. The shoe library boasts, among others styles, the signature rabbit-eared ballet flats from Trinity Place’s parent company Le Bunny Bleu. Currently only the women’s floor is open, but the dedicated men’s and children’s floors will round out this three-story shop central in the coming months. And though Le Bunny Bleu has an established global presence with 82 international stores, the grand New York Trinity Place opening is only the beginning of their haute hop forward, with TP outposts in Paris, Milan and London set to follow next year.
