Ahead of the Trends at Opening Ceremony

The epitome of downtown New York street style, standout stylista favourite Opening Ceremony opened in 2002 with a mission to showcase the best global fashion within its store-cum-gallery-cum-warehouse space. Fittingly choosing to open shop in the ‘melting pot’ that is New York, co-owners Humberto Leon and Carol Lim debuted with a curated collection inspired by ‘USA vs Hong Kong’, and have since added a new country’s wares to their roster each year.

And this year, in celebration of OC’s 10th anniversary, the duo opened a new location, mere blocks away from their flagship, on SoHo’s Greene Street (as well as a sparkly new location in London’s Covent Garden).

The SoHo doors were thrown open in July to welcome the masses of OC devotees, who discovered a delightful space that had been transformed into an Olympic-themed indoor pool, with each ‘lane’ hosting an exclusive and limited-edition athletic-themed brand, including goods like Orlebar Brown’s printed swimmers and Norma Kamali’s sleek-chic separates.

And in signature OC fashion, a handful of exclusive collaborations are also lining the shelves here – from the adidas Originals x Opening Ceremony paisley pieces to vintage sportswear expertly edited by Brian Procell, plus Patrik Ervell’s Tennis Whites collection, an OC London exclusive that’s luckily also made an appearance on Greene St shelves. It’s easy to see why hip New Yorkers are all obsessed with this Opening Ceremony – it’s the gold medalist for sporty-chic.
