Not Your Average General Store…

Clic Gallery

When you hear the words ‘general store’, it’s hard not to conjure images of Ma and Pa vending your favourite brand of soda pop in a generic country town. But if that’s what you had in mind, prepare for a shock, because this general store is anything but run-of-the-mill. An offshoot of the popular St. Barth-born Clic Bookstore & Gallery, Clic General Store is the new expanded space filled to the brim with one-of-a-kind directional fashion, accessories and homeware that founder Christiane Celle (also of fashion label Calypso) has unearthed from independent studios the world over, and handpicked for unique, artisan quality.

Complementing the gallery’s photography collection of emerging and established names, and the bookstore’s range of art and lifestyle tomes, are brands like Electriclove, Wendy Nichol, Fredericks & Mae and Atsuyo et Akiko. Expect to find butter-soft leather handbags, accessories and luxe dream-catchers, men and women’s fashion, handmade jewellery, quirky home décor, and colourful children’s garb. Once you’ve shopped the imaginative collection, head for lunch at nearby taxidermy-laden diner Freemans to mull over your treasures in the hippest of surrounds, and be sure to order the delicious hot artichoke dip with crispy bread.

Iconic, majestic, grand, kitsch, the tops, the bottoms, the kit and the caboodle – what more can be said of this culinary epicentre and cultural mecca, this arts-obsessed design hub that’s endlessly romantic, gritty, trendsetting, status conscious, hyper-hip and fashion-forward?
