All-you-can-eat crab for a good cause

Hammer & Claws Blue Crab Feast

After the roaring success of its summer 2011 debut, the Hammer & Claws Blue Crab Feast left full-bellied New Yorkers licking their fingers and aching for more. By popular demand, the now annual event is back for its second outing, with Choptank restaurant owner and event founder Joshua Morgan primed to bring you even more all-you-can-eat goodness at this year’s feast, held over four seatings from Friday September 7th through Sunday 9th.

Taking place the weekend after Labour Day, the festival will be held in the historic Tunnel Space of the Terminal Stores building in Chelsea, and for the ticket price of US$89 participants can enjoy as much of the classic ‘Maryland-style’ cooked crab as they can manage, plus unlimited beer and cocktails. The delectable crustaceans are simply steamed in beer and vinegar and dusted with Old Bag seasoning, and of course there are toothsome sides such as corn on the cob, slaw, and cornbread included too. And the best part – a share of the proceeds goes to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, an environmental group dedicated to saving the Bay and its fragile ecosystem. Eating good food for an exceptionally good cause, what could be more enjoyable?

Iconic, majestic, grand, kitsch, the tops, the bottoms, the kit and the caboodle – what more can be said of this culinary epicentre and cultural mecca, this arts-obsessed design hub that’s endlessly romantic, gritty, trendsetting, status conscious, hyper-hip and fashion-forward?
