Denim Heaven
3x1 Made Here
There are jeans, and then there is custom denim. Unless you’ve been to downtown denim factory (or, rather, denim heaven) 3x1 Made Here, you don’t own your dream jeans just yet. The latest venture from Scott Morrison (of Paper Denim and Cloth and Earnest Sewn) is a sight to behold - a 4,000 sq foot temple to the fabric de NÎmes, offering a start-to-finish shopping experience, with the tidy work atelier mere steps away from the polished showroom - all in the heart of SoHo.
What this means is that each pair of 3x1 jeans is handmade in-house (read: in front of your eyes), since the workroom and showroom are separated by nothing more than glass windows.
As you would expect for denim that will set you back a cool $1200, you are spoilt for choice, all the better to craft the perfect pair. You’ll sit down with Morrison and the Head Pattern-maker to discuss your design vision: select your silhouette, customise the trims, cuts, and colours, handpick the hardware from rivets to zips, and choose from over 135 different denim fabrics, all hand-washed and coming from the finest Italian, American and Japanese mills.
With only 50 pairs made per day, you’d better make an appointment well ahead of time. And trust us, you won’t find a better-looking pair elsewhere.
