Lights, Camera, Action!
12th Annual Tribeca Film Festival
So thriving is the art and film culture in New York that the iconic annual New York Film Festival
proved not enough for the city’s avid moviegoers, who in 2002 warmly welcomed the annual Tribeca Film Festival. Launched by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, the TFF brings a fresh new line-up of global feature films, documentaries, narratives, and shorts to the big screen, this year with a staggering 53 world premieres (including a record-breaking 23 from the ‘Spotlight’ section).
The 12 days of action begin on April 17 with the exclusive debut of the documentary Mistaken for Strangers, executive produced by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Marshall Curry and following the lives of brothers and bandmates Tom and Matt Berninger (of rock group The National). Also among the most promising films on the TFF slate are Before Midnight (USA), the third in Richard Linklater’s series starring Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke as star-crossed lovers, the Christina Voros-directed and James Franco-produced The Director (Italy), a behind-the-scenes look at the Florentine couture house of Gucci, as well as the psychological thriller Dark Touch (France) from director Marina de Van, which kicks off the rebranded and hotly anticipated ‘Midnight’ (formerly Cinemania) features. Cue the lights!
