Custom luxe in Makati
W/17 Home Store
How many times have you walked into an interiors store and seen something you liked, but wished it were customisable to your colour scheme or whim? While this is impossible for most stores where the designs are bought in, at W/17, where upwards of 60% of the pieces are designed in-house and manufactured locally, customisation has become the cornerstone of interior stylist Andy Vázquez-Prada’s beautifully merchandised store in Makati.
Serving as both shop floor and design inspiration, the stunning and spacious 520-sqm space is filled with a series of perfectly tailored ‘rooms’ and tableaux, set against decadent carbon walls and chocolate drapes.
Bold one-off statement slabs of sustainably sourced abaca are surmounted with a delicate shagreen box or a preserved sawtooth shark bill; splashes of blood orange and aubergine fabric-covered lamps punctuate the gloriously eclectic mix of exquisite Chinese antique lacquer cabinets and ceramics; and dotted everywhere are seductive handpicked accents like Thai-designer Alexander Lamont’s luminous gilded bronze bowls, Nepalese hand-knotted rugs from New York-based Iñigo Elizalde, and rustic wooden boxes from fashion guru Pepito Albert.
But it’s Vázquez-Prada’s own contemporary furniture and accessory designs that really propel the store into world-class, featuring shell, shagreen, horn and bone detailing, all of which can be remade bespoke, along with handwoven fabrics and exquisitely hand-embroidered table linens in a muted palette of putty and greiges. Ready for an interior makeover? You bet.
