Ex-banker, wife, mother and fashion entrepreneur Mavis Manotoc-Fuentebella is one busy lady. Not content with the Tala Manila brand she launched in 2010 to supply time-poor women with smart, wearable wardrobe staples in classic silhouettes, she then founded the relaxed and funky Grubbies label offering low-maintenance, fun and functional tops and dresses in easy-care fabrics.
And now, after only selling the labels solely through private trunk shows, she’s opened her own store Upstairs, a spacious and airy, polished concrete box of tricks that is fast becoming the default fashion stop for career gals and Yum Mums alike.
Along with Manotoc-Fuentebella’s own high-performance designs, the store shelves Thai Australian model Paula Taylor’s baby clothing line PaulaAndBaby, along with one-of-a-kind jewellery from maverick designer Natalya Lagdameo. And as if all that weren’t enough, later in the year sees the launch of a new capsule kids collection, Stella by Tala Manila, showcasing all the most popular styles of Tala Manila reworked in fun colours, prints and fabrics for little fashion fiends. Multitasking never looked so trendy!
Oh, and in case you were wondering, Tala translates as ‘bright star’ in Tagalog – all the more reason to head Upstairs.
